It discusses the most important heat treatments of ductile irons, namely, stress relieving, austenitizing, annealing, normalizing, quenching, martempering, austempering, and surface hardening. The article elucidates the effects of these heat treatments on the mechanical properties of the ductile irons. Nodular iron is however a material that contains different kinds of defects, such as inclusions, dross, surface defects, slag stringers and micro shrinkage pores. Nodular iron is also called ductile iron. The graphite is present as tiny balls or spheroids. Because the spheroids interrupt the matrix much less than graphite flakes, nodular cast.
A ductile iron generally has higher hardenability than a eutectoid steel with comparable alloy content. The article also discusses the physical properties of ductile iron, including density, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, electrical resistivity, and magnetic properties. Inc. (QIT) and Richards Bay Iron and Titanium (Pty) Limited (RBIT). Indeed, it can be accurately described as being a RIT tradition of interest and involvement in this area of castings production. Ductile Iron is a type of cast iron known for its impact and fatigue resistance, elongation, and wear resistance due to the spherical (round) graphite structures in the metal.
Ductile Iron is also called ductile cast iron, spheroidal graphite cast iron, or nodular cast iron. Learn more. Washington, DC: The National Academies Press.

Ductile iron, also known as ductile cast iron, nodular cast iron, spheroidal graphite iron, spheroidal graphite cast iron and SG iron, is a type of graphite-rich cast iron discovered in by Keith Millis.
While most varieties of cast iron are weak in tension and brittle, ductile iron has much more impact and fatigue resistance, due to its nodular graphite inclusions. Leslie M.
Wyatt, (Section ), in Mechanical Engineer's Reference Book (Twelfth Edition), Austempered ductile iron. Austempered ductile iron is SG iron with added alloying elements, (usually Mo, Ni and/or Cu) sufficient for a bainitic structure, usually with retained austenite, to be produced in the section size by austempering.
Such material can have yield strength and UTS. Ductile Iron Flanged Pipe for Water and Other Liquids. Flanged pipe and fittings are typical components in rigid piping systems.
Such systems are ANSI /AWWA Standards particularly suited for above ground installation in the following: water filtration plants, sewage disposal plants, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and industrial plants, per AWWA C/ Ductile Iron is a specific type of cast iron in which the free graphite is in the shape of nodules or spheroids.
(Other names for ductile iron are nodular iron or spheroidal graphite iron.) Ductile Iron Pipe were introduced to the market in Although nearly identical chemically, the two irons are quite different metallurgically.
Experienced Cast Iron Foundry. Sioux City Foundry has been a continuously operating Cast Iron Foundry for over years. One of the oldest and most experienced foundries in the United States, Sioux City Foundry is a modern, ductile, austempered ductile and ni-hard cast iron foundry.

Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) is a form of ductile iron that enjoys high strength and ductility as a result of its microstructure controlled through heat treatment.
While conventional ductile iron was discovered in and the austempering process had been around since the s, the combination of the two technologies was not commercialized until the s.Physical Properties of Ductile Iron and Alternative Materials.
